Program

Digital DXing with PSK31 and RTTY

    Presented by:

    Jim Kauten, W4TE

If you have not used the digital modes it is time you learned.  The consumate DX'er utilizes any mode to make that QSO for the "NEW ONE".  If the P5 was only on RTTY or PSK31 would you not even try?  Would you cry and go home to Mommy?  NOOOOOO!

Digital DXing is easy.  Software is refined as are the interfaces to link the software with the radio.  Some radios even can decode and show RTTY text on their screens!

Digital modes preserve bandwidth and are very efficient in regards to bandwidth.  Some modes even have error correction.  If you are not using the digital modes you are missing out on a very fun area of amateur radio.  To outline the evening:

    We will cover the following:

    • Basics of digital modes--PSK31 & RTTY
    • Software for operating digital modes
    • Interfaces
    • Operating techniques
    • Q & A

The plan is not to get too technical but to get you on your way to operating a digital mode.  You may even want to try an RTTY contest!
